Algorithm Design Engineer / Senior Algorithm Engineer, Hampshire, £30k(£30K)

Algorithm Design Engineer / Senior Algorithm Engineer, Hampshire, £30k Our top blue chip client is seeking a signal processing algorithm engineer to work with the many different emerging digital TV standards requiring new signal processing algorithms. At present this team’s main responsibility is to design digital demodulator algorithms for digital TV reception using COFDM (DVB-T standard), QAM (DVB-C standard) and the future COFDM based DVB-T2 standard, although other areas of development are possible in the future. Key Activities and Responsibilities • Developing good understanding of target system operation. • Block level specification and report writing. • Signal processing algorithm development and documentation. • Modeling system performance in C, Matlab, Co-Centric System Studio and possibly other simulation tools in the future. • Contributing to the development of hardware architecture. • Documenting and communicating knowledge of algorithm operation to assist RTL implementation designers. • Test vector generation and bit matching support to RTL designers. • Lab evaluation of prototype designs. • Assessment and enhancement of internal and 3rd party IP blocks. • Build relationships with the other team members and hardware design engineers to ensure smooth development of algorithm and its transfer to hardware implementation Skills / Experience Essential • Good analytical skills • Detailed knowledge of communications theory • Detailed knowledge of signal processing theory • Experience of digital communication receiver system modeling in Matlab and C and/or other tools such as CoCentric system studio, COSSAP, SPW, Simulink etc Highly Desirable • Detailed knowledge / experience of developing signal processing algorithms for COFDM demodulators. • Knowledge and development experience of other types of demodulator signal processing algorithms e.g. for QAM, VSB, QPSK, DQPSK etc. • Experience of developing digital communication receiver algorithms for realisation in hardware and/or DSP cores. • System knowledge of Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting or other digital communication networks including mobile networks, and receiver devices • Experience of software development (RCS, coding style, software testing etc). Beneficial • Understanding of how algorithms map into hardware implementations • Broad knowledge of related engineering areas such IC design and VHDL/Verilog, use of lab measurement equipment, would be beneficial but support will be given to gain this knowledge as part of on-going job training • Some knowledge of digital broadcasting systems and other digital communication networks and receiver devices.
