HowTo - Prepare yourself for the interview - Part 1

Here are a few tips that will help you get that first interview or really impress the employer when you actually go to that first interview.

1. The company

You turn up, they ask a few questions about you, you ask how much the salary is, they nod and you get the job, right? Yes, you guessed it - wrong!

Make sure you find out about the company first. Find out everything about the business and really saturate yourself with everthing there is to know about them. Here are some good places to start:

  • The official company website
  • Go to the BBC website and do a search for the company there
  • See what sort of information Google gives you
  • Or perhaps a Facebook search sheds some light on the business

Look for news and articles that you might be able to use in your interview that shows you are really interested in the company and that the company could really benefit from employing you.

2. The interviewer

The flip side of the interview is your interviewer. Sometimes, especially in smaller business, you may find that the person you have been in touch with for the job, will end up interviewing you. If so, you're already ahead of the game.

Go do some searches on Google or Facebook. Find out about them and what they like to do. If they're a keen sailor then casually mention that sailing weekend you went on several years ago and it may reap some dividends!
